Job Summary

The Janitor is responsible for keeping buildings and other facilities clean, organized, and in good working condition. This includes performing routine cleaning tasks, addressing maintenance issues, and ensuring that the space is safe and sanitary. Janitors are essential to maintaining a clean, comfortable, and inviting environment for employees, visitors, or students, depending on the facility.

Job Description



  • Cleaning and Maintenance:



    • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and sanitize floors, carpets, and other surfaces to maintain cleanliness throughout the facility.

    • Dust and clean furniture, windows, walls, and fixtures to ensure an overall neat and tidy environment.

    • Empty trash cans, dispose of waste, and replace trash liners as needed.

    • Clean and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, and mirrors, and ensure that restrooms are fully stocked with supplies (e.g., soap, toilet paper).




  • Floor Care:



    • Clean and polish floors, including tile, hardwood, and carpet, using appropriate methods and equipment.

    • Shampoo and deep clean carpets as needed.




  • Stocking and Supplies:



    • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and materials to ensure that all areas are properly stocked and cleaned.

    • Report any shortages or issues with supplies to the supervisor or management.




  • General Maintenance:



    • Assist with minor building maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, cleaning vents, or reporting larger maintenance issues to appropriate personnel.

    • Ensure that the building is safe, clean, and free from any hazards (e.g., wet floors or obstructed exits).




  • Health and Safety:



    • Follow health and safety standards, including the proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment.

    • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary and follow safety protocols to ensure the well-being of both the janitor and building occupants.




  • Waste Management:



    • Remove trash and recyclables from offices, bathrooms, and other common areas regularly.

    • Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials, such as cleaning chemicals or broken glass, according to company policies.




  • Reporting:



    • Report any maintenance issues, damages, or hazards to the appropriate staff or management team.

    • Keep logs of cleaning tasks completed and any materials or supplies used.
